Where are you located?
Can we do telehealth?
What are your hours?
How long are sessions?
What ages do you see?
Do you take insurance?
The only insurance carrier I currently accept is BCBS of Kansas. Many of my clients choose self-pay.
If I am out of your insurance network, I am happy to create a “Superbill” for your insurance company, which you can submit for possible reimbursement of your out-of-pocket costs at the time of service. I cannot guarantee reimbursement, as that’s done at their discretion.
Why don’t you take most insurance?
In a nutshell, I don’t agree with most insurance companies ethically. They limit the care I can provide for you and have little regard for privacy.
How much paperwork will I need to fill out?
I’m not a big fan of paperwork, so I don’t require much more than the essentials.
You’ll fill out consent and policy forms, automatic payment options, a basic intake questionnaire, and a few scales to help me know where you are with your mental health.
All of this will be sent to you online before our first session.
How do I pay?
What is your cancellation policy?
I reserve your appointment time just for you and expect that we will both show up ready to work.
Please give me at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel.
I understand things come up, so I allow two late cancellations before charging the full amount.
How long can I expect to work with you?
It depends! There’s no definite answer here. Everyone’s experiences are different. Sometimes things come up that we had no idea would come up!
My goal is to honor your pace, whatever that may look like, and check in with you on how you feel about your progress.
Do you assign homework?
Again, it depends! Each person works differently. If assigning homework will benefit you, then absolutely. But if you’re not going to do it, then okay! We won’t waste our time with it.
I only ask that, since I may only get to see you for 1 out of 168 hours in a week, you do your best to apply your therapeutic insight outside of session. That’s where lasting change takes place.
Are our sessions confidential?
Trust and confidentiality are vital to the therapeutic relationship. All our communication about your treatment is confidential and protected by law. If I see you in public, I will not approach you (to maintain your privacy), but if you come to me first, I’m happy to say, “Hi!”
Our communication should largely take place during sessions, via the SimplePractice portal, or by phone call. If you’d like me to communicate with anyone regarding your treatment, you can sign a release of information allowing me to do so.
The only circumstance in which your right to confidentiality is waived is if you have serious thoughts of harming yourself or someone else. In these situations, I will work with you to maintain as much privacy as possible while prioritizing your safety and the safety of others, which may require notifying others.
What if I’m in crisis?
Because I work on a strictly outpatient basis, I recommend that you call a local or national crisis line for crisis assistance. They can provide you with immediate help, which I may be unable to deliver at the moment.
To call the National Mental Health and Suicide Crisis line, dial 988 anytime. If you are in immediate danger of harming yourself or someone else, please dial 911 or go to the nearest emergency room and ask for a crisis mental health evaluation.

What is a good faith estimate?
A “good faith estimate” explains how much your mental health care should cost. Under the law, healthcare providers should give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for services.
You have the right to receive a good faith estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.
You can ask your healthcare provider for a good faith estimate before you schedule a service.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your good faith estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your estimate.

Are you spiritual or religious?
Yes. My Catholic faith is central to who I am.
But you don’t have to be Catholic (or religious at all) for us to work well together. I have no agenda to convert you. Rather, I’ll meet and respect you right where you are.
Will you judge me?
You’ve probably judged yourself quite a bit already. It is not my intention to add to that.
What kind of work would you do if you weren’t a therapist?
When I was kid, I wanted to be a marine biologist (Didn’t every millennial? LOL).
Now, I think being a private investigator would be super fun! Like most millennials, I am quite adept at Internet investigation.
